SMEs not convinced by wireless
Most businesses have concerns about rolling out wireless technology, according to a survey of IT and telecoms managers by the SAS Group.
The main concern is a lack of in-house expertise, cited by 32% of respondents, followed by a perception that wireless networks are unreliable (21%).
A further 21% said cost was the major barrier while 18% expressed fears over security.
“Vendors are making an awful lot of noise about the benefits of wireless IPT solutions, but it seems that the vast majority of UK businesses still believe this technology offers more cons than pros,” said Charles Davis, chief executive of the SAS Group.
“Just as worrying for vendors is the fact that businesses associate a number of problems with wireless IPT,” he added. “It’s clear that several issues need to be ironed out before this technology will be in a position to go mainstream.”
