Staff more wasteful in the office
British workers are less green when it comes to saving energy and water at work than they are in their own homes, according to a study by Enviro-Fresh.
The research found that 71% of employees never switch the lights off at work and the same percentage fail to recycle in the office.
It also found that 85% fail to shut windows if the air-conditioning or heating is on and 93% have never used the short flush in the office.
Despite this, 90% of employees say they would like to do more to reduce the impact of their behaviour at work on the environment, with 69% wanting more recycling bins and 59% seeking light sensors to automatically turn off lights.
"This research shows that employees would like to see more guidance on how they can do their bit for the environment at work," said Mark Gillespie, managing director at Enviro-Fresh. "Even small steps like installing adjustable flow toilets in washrooms can significantly reduce water wastage."
