The Federal Reserve bank in the USA has reduced interest rates across the US by a quarter pct, the first reduction in 11 years. In the not so distant past this might have influenced a UK cut but with both economies going in different directions and with the " special relationship" we have had with the US, not currently looking so special, this bears no relationship on UK rates, which may go the other way in due course.
President Trump with an election just around the corner, has been calling on the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, to lower rates significantly for some time, in his own inimitable fashion and since the cut has heaped Twitter criticism on the actions of Powell, who has failed to signify, in strong enough words that this cut is one of a series that Trump wants to see pre election.
Spread the love and maybe the people will love you.
The Central Bank is supposed to be independent of the President, whoever he might be but those details are unlikely stop Trump upping the pressure on the Fed Chair ahead of the election in the US on November 3RD 2020
